With a huge success in USA, Europe and China, Lexus has planned to try its wheels on Indian ground. Selling more than Jaguar and Land Rover in USA, Lexus became the second best seller after BMW.Lexus, the luxury vehicle division of the Japanese auto maker Toyota will be officially launching three new models the - RX SUV, the ES sedan and the RC-F coupe in January next year.
The Lexus RX450h will be powered by 3.5-litre V6 petrol motor coupled to Toyota’s Hybrid system, similar to the one in the Prius.The ES300h is based on the Camry sedan with a 2.5 - litre petrol engine and the Lexus LX450d SUV with twin turbo 4.5 litre V8 diesel and petrol powered LX570 by 5.7 litre V8 engine, priced from 1 crore due to its completely built units to be imported to India.
Lexus is a strong global brand but will it be able to make profit in Indian luxury car market which caters to just 1% population is a doubt. Also NGT banning the sale of diesel cars with capacity above 2000cc may become a big hurdle for the company.
Undoubtedly, Indian automobile market would be eagerly waiting for it's grand opening in Delhi and Mumbai next year.
